Marianne Bromley of the NWT Literacy Council talks about the importance of speaking to your child in your language from birth and even before. Children learn language by hearing it. The earlier the better: The infant/toddler years are a good time to lay a solid foundation for a minority language.

Family Literacy Photo Contest Rules

  1. By submitting a photo to the contest, participants agree that photos may be used for Literacy Council promotion.
  2. Photos must come with a caption, describing what the people in the photo are learning and where they are or what they are doing (eg. photo of a familymaking cupcakes – learning how to count and measure in our kitchen).
  3. Contest runs January 19-26, 2015.
  4. The first winner will be chosen by a random draw at noon on Family Literacy Day, Tuesday, January 27.  Subsequent winners will be chosen throughout the afternoon.
  5. We encourage people from outside the Northwest Territories (NWT) to participate in our contest, but due to shipping costs, winners will be chosen from NWT entrants only!

Use these coupons as a surprise, a gift, payment for chores or just a fun way to bring everyone together for fun
