My name’s Mya and I’m 13 years old. I recently read the book Cut Off, by Jamie Bastedo. I was surprised that I liked this book since it’s not the kind of novel I usually read, but after the first few pages I wanted to know what was going to happen next.
I mostly read supernatural romances, but I’m really glad that I tried something new. I enjoyed the plot and the characters. This book was amazing. It is about a teenager with an Internet addiction, who loses his dog, suffers from depression and ends up moving to Canada. There is even a little romance.
He goes through the kinds of problems and life changes that teenagers can relate to. I found the story believable and I could feel what the main character goes through. I cried when Indio’s dog died, for instance.
Indio ends up going to a nature-based rehabilitation centre. He had adventures there and by the end of the book he has conquered his addiction and seems to enjoy life more. My favourite part was the ending. I liked the inspiring message that no matter what a person goes through, they can grow and change for the better.
Indio grew and changed with the help of Canadian nature. I love nature so I could certainly relate to this. I also learned that when bad things happen, even people who don’t like each other can find a way to work together.
I would recommend this book to any teenager or young adult who likes to read about real-life issues.
I often reread books that I like, books that draw me in. I’ve read Cut Off three times.
