Do you want to help the next generation get a post-secondary education? You can - by passing on information about the Canada Learning Bond.
A parent just contacted us about a bank manager in the NWT who didn’t know about this national program that gives up to $2,000 to lower-income families for a child’s post-secondary education. We want everyone to know that this money is available to parents without their having to match the government funding.
There are more than 3,000 eligible children in the NWT not receiving this benefit! The NWT continues to have very low uptake for the Canada Learning Bond, partly because parents and bank staff don’t know about it.
SmartSaver is a national organization trying to change that. It’s organizing webinars for service providers across the country, including Income Security Program client service officers across the NWT. SmartSaver helps parents start their Canada Learning Bond application online - with no enrolment fee, no annual fee, and no contribution required.
On our website you can also check out our infographic and my earlier blog about the Canada Learning Bond. Education savings encourage students to continue with their education. Do your part to make sure all NWT children have education savings.
