We are proud to support newcomers in our community by offering programs and opportunities that help individuals and families integrate, settle and feel welcomed in northern Canada.
Our team assists newcomers as they adjust to local culture, climate, language, school systems, and employment barriers. We also provide support through programs such as SWIS (Settlement Workers in Schools), which helps ensure students and parents receive the language and cultural support they need.
Our Community Connections programming offers a wide range of cultural and educational activities. Through our Speak English Café, newcomers can practice conversational English in a relaxed, friendly environment. Throughout the year, we host events such as gardening, BBQs, cooking classes, swimming, canoeing, cross country skiing, fitness sessions, and more.
Goals of our newcomer programming:
- Welcome and support newcomers and refugees as they settle into Canadian society.
- Create safe, inclusive spaces to learn about Canadian and Northern systems.
- Encourage family literacy in schools and community settings.
- Promote connection, learning, and wellbeing.
- Provide accessible educational and social opportunities for all newcomers.
