Seeking a literacy champion in the Tłı̨chǫ region

The annual general meeting of the NWT Literacy Council took place on November 21, 2015 in conjunction with a face-to-face meeting of the Board of Directors of the NWT Literacy Council.

During our AGM, we elected a new President – Ken Latour from Hay River.  Ken was our former Treasurer, and we look forward to his insights in the coming months.  We also have a new Treasurer – Norma Gauthier from Behchokǫ̀.  This means that we have a vacancy in the Tłı̨chǫ region.  If you are a literacy champion, would like to join our Board of Directors and live in the Tłı̨chǫ region, drop us a line – we will let you know how to put your name forward for election.

With every new election, it is time to say goodbye to former board members.  We are saddened at the departure of Jeri Miltenberger, a long-time Literacy Council supporter and board member.  Jeri was among the first literacy champions who came together to create the NWT Literacy Council in 1989 – 1990.  We wish Jeri the best in her future endeavors in the South Slave Region.

In case you are wondering, our other Board Members are: Suzanne Robinson (Vice President), Beverly Garven (Secretary), Rachel Gauthier (Yellowknife, Ndılǫ and Dettah), Melani Adams (Beaufort Delta), Emma Amundson (Deh Cho), Amy Ryan (South Slave), Mary Ann Vital (Sahtu).

If you are interested in becoming a member of the NWT Literacy Council (which allows you to vote for our board representatives), visit our website at www.nwtliteracy.ca and choose ‘become a member’ in the ‘about us’ tab.
